A BRIEF HISTORY OF BRACKLEY RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL CLUB
Brackley RUFC was formed in 1976 to address the growing need for Rugby Union Football in the town. Within its first season the club was fielding three senior XVs and by 1983 it had built a clubhouse and prepared two new pitches on land leased from South Northamptonshire Council near what is now the Leisure Centre.
As residential development gathered pace to the west of Brackley in the early 1990s, South Northamptonshire Council proposed that the Rugby Club relocate to its present site off Nightingale Close. The move was completed in 1999, since when the club has flourished at senior and junior level.
Brackley plays in the Midland division of the Rugby Football Union league. It is currently in Counties 2 Midlands East (South), and also has matches against local rivals Banbury, Buckingham and Towcestrians. The club continues to field three senior XVs with the 1st XV playing every Saturday. The 2nd XV play in the East Midlands Leagues in East Midlands 2 - Northants B. The club also has an occasional but enthusiastic veterans' XV. The club has a thriving Youth section that caters for male and female players from Under 6s through to Under 18s.
HM Revenue & Customs registered Brackley RUFC as a Community Amateur Sports Club in February 2006. In August the following year, the club achieved RFU Seal of Approval and Sport England Clubmark accredited status. In so doing, Brackley Rugby Club has been recognised as a safe, effective and child friendly organisation. The Clubmark scheme has been developed by Sport England to enable children and young people, their parents, carers, or others with an interest in sport, to identify across a wide range of different sports clubs, those that are committed to providing a quality experience.
At the Annual General Meeting held in June 2009, it was agreed to incorporate the club and to transfer the assets and undertaking to Brackley Rugby Union Football Club Limited.
